My Mind's Eye

My Mind’s Eye

Sometimes in the silence I hear a faint sound,

I look for the source but its not to be found.
My heart skips a beat for I know the voice
Of one who has left me, not of my choice.
As I sit deep in thought something catches my eye,
I look to see nothing, disappointed I sigh
The light playing tricks with shadows I see
The tree by the window blown by night breeze.
I whisper your name into the dark,
My ears listen intently to hear your sweet bark.
My eyes search the night straining to see
Just one more time you running to me.
My soul is empty, my heart feels betrayed
In the pain that I feel of the death on this day
I sit in my chair my hand hanging down
Searching for you where you used to be found
The pain in full bloom, the tears they flow free
My loving friend has been taken from me.
In my minds eye your image I’ll keep
With the love in my heart buried so deep
I know you are gone from my sight and my touch
But never from my heart,
I loved you too much.
I’ll see you each day in my minds eye….
But for this moment, I sit and I cry.
